Whisky & Distilleries

From cosy bars complete with whisky-loving locals and tasting sessions, to specialist retailers and distillery tours, Glasgow has a lot to offer when it comes our renowned national drink.

No visit to Glasgow is complete without a visit to one of the area's whisky distilleries.

Glengoyne Distillery is within easy reach of Glasgow and is open to visitors all year round. The distillery operates a selection of tours including the Master Blender Session where guests can create their very own blended whisky.

Sitting on the bank of the River Clyde, Auchentoshan Distillery is home to Scotland's only triple distilled single malt whisky. The distillery, conveniently located 20 minutes from Glasgow city centre and 15 minutes from Glasgow Airport, offers in-depth distillery tours and whisky masterclasses. “The Story of Oak" tour provides the opportunity to experience the distinctive influence of different casks on Auchentoshan whisky as well as the impact of age.

Distilling Glasgow's Future Whisky

The first new distillery in the city of Glasgow for over 100 years, the original Glasgow distillery is set to be revived in the heart of the city on the River Clyde. The Pump House, home to The Glasgow Distillery, will bring the past and the present together, allowing visitors to enjoy the pioneering journeys of Scotland's unique golden cargo whilst being captivated by tales of the spirits' global reach today.

The whisky stills are making their way to The Pump House and Glasgow’s first whisky will be laid down before the end of 2014. Further details and updates on progress can be found here

Whisky Bars

Glasgow is also famous for its whisky bars, with some of finest collections of malt whisky in Scotland.

The Pot Still, named after the earliest whisky stills, is a wonderful little pub and visitors return time and time again. With an impressive gantry, the bar has more whisky than you can handle, all served up by knowledgeable and cheery staff.

The Bon Accord ale house & malt whisky bar at Charing Cross has 380 malt whiskies in stock and is one of the most highly regarded pubs in Scotland.

Taking pride of place on the corner of the lively Finnieston area, the Ben Nevis is home to an outstanding range of whiskies. Once inside, it’s easy to imagine you have stepped into a pub deep in the Scottish mountains with conversation flowing between jolly locals and visitors alike.

Where to Buy

As you explore the city, you'll find a wide range of malt whiskies, including many rare and hard to find bottles in The Good Spirits Co. just off Buchanan Street on the Style Mile.
